Why we are taking action...
One in eight U.S. adults has kidney disease and 90% don’t even know it. Many people are unaware that kidney disease can be prevented, which is why we have Paired Up with the American Kidney Fund in an effort to make sure our family, friends and colleagues are all aware of this silent killer. Through a dynamic partnership, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is helping the American Kidney Fund raise awareness of kidney disease and its risk factors through health and education-focused activities.

Our partnership with the American Kidney Fund has provided us with a chance to highlight our commitment to service and raising awareness of kidney disease. Last year, our chapters in Washington, D.C., San Antonio, Houston and Atlanta provided many volunteers and helped raise money for prevention and awareness efforts! Many AKA members also took advantage of the free health screenings available during Kidney Action Day. This year, we will once again join the American Kidney Fund to raise money and awareness for those living with kidney disease. You can join us in the fight against kidney disease by joining your Chapter's team. Your contribution, whether it is $20 or $2,000, will help fund the programs that provide financial assistance to people living with kidney disease.

This year’s Kidney Action Day Walks will take place in Washington, D.C. Metro (June 22), San Antonio (September Date TBD) and Houston (November 17). Register today and don’t forget to let us know you’re part of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority on the registration form! If there’s not a Kidney Action Day Walk near you, you can take part in the American Kidney Fund Virtual Walk—anytime, anyplace. Consider forming a team for your walk to help raise awareness of kidney disease in your community and raising funds to help kidney patients and millions of people who are at risk for kidney disease.
About Kidney Action Day
Kidney Action Day is a free, fun-filled, family-friendly event with a serious purpose: helping people understand their risk for kidney disease and how to prevent it. The American Kidney Fund's signature outreach event, Kidney Action Day is held in cities where rates of kidney disease are higher than the national average.
