Why I am Walking
I have been personally touched by the impact of kidney disease. I have several loved ones suffering from this disease. My vow is to do my best to bring awareness to the causes and most importantly make sure that people are aware that kidney disease can be prevented, which is way I am participating in the American Kidney Fund's Virtual Walk. When this unsuspecting disease entered my life, it arrived without preannouncement or warnings. My healthy physically fit brother returned from the beach one weekend and went to the emergency room as a result of a cold that continued to get worse and being fatigue. Unknowling to anyone, this was the result of his kidney's shutting down. One in eight U.S. adults have kidney disease and 90% don't even know it.
Knowledge is Power! I will join the American Kidney Fund in an effort to make sure our family, friends and colleagues are all aware of this silent killer. We are working together in fight against kidney disease by creating awareness and helping to raise money for programs and services.
Join me in Taking Action
Last year, the American Kidney Fund provided assistance to 1 out of every 5 dialysis patients. This year, Virtual Walkers will be walking to raise money and awareness for those living with kidney disease. I am happy to report that his weekly dialysis treatments, top tier nephrologist, and diet and exercise are sustaining my brother’s quality of life. You can join me in the fight against kidney disease by supporting my personal fundraising efforts. Your contribution, whether it is $20 or $2,000, will help fund the programs that provide financial assistance to people living with kidney disease.
