Does it cost anything to register?
No! There is no registration fee for Steps that Count, but we do encourage you to seek financial donations from your family, friends, and co-workers.

How Do I Register for the Walk?
Registering for Steps that Count is quick, easy and can be done from the comfort of your home in 3 easy steps!

  1. The first step is to select the walk location you would like to join.
  2. Next, decide: Will you be participating as a member of a Walk Team, Individual Walker or Virtual Walker?
  3. Complete the appropriate Online Registration Form to become an official participant of your local Walk!!

If I come late, may I still walk?
Absolutely! But we hope you will make it in time for the presentation and warm up at the start of the walk.

How long is the walk?
The walk route is approximately 3.0 miles.  Walkers are not required to walk the entire distance.

Is the walk route handicapped accessible?
Yes.

May I bring children? Is the route stroller accessible?
Yes! Parents, family, and friends are encouraged to bring children. There will be a variety of family friendly activities that will entertain and amuse your children.

May I get an extra t-shirt?
Walk participants who raise $50 or more will receive one t-shirt. Sorry, we can't give away extras.

What if someone wants to sponsor me, but doesn't want to contribute online?
Not a problem! You may collect donations in person and either mail them to the American Kidney Fund, or turn them in on Walk Day. Just follow these steps...

  1. Print out the offline donation form and ask your sponsor to complete it. They may pay by cash, credit card or check-- but we ask that you NOT mail cash to the American Kidney Fund. Checks should be made payable to "American Kidney Fund."
  2. You can mail the donation form (with check if the person is paying by check) or bring the donation with you and turn it at the Registration table on Walk Day.

What is a Team Captain?
Being a team captain is an important and rewarding task. By gathering family, friends and co-workers to join your team, you are increasing awareness and supporting programs that will help kidney patients who depend on AKF.

Can I participate as an individual?
YES! You can register as an individual walker. By coming to the walk, you will generate interest in the event and raise awareness and money for this very important cause.

Are there bathrooms available?
Porta-potties will be available for use.

What happens if it rains?
Nothing! Steps that Count will take place rain, shine, sleet, or snow! (But we're hoping for beautiful weather!)
