It’s so gratifying to see the difference our outreach efforts make in people’s lives. That’s one of the reasons I especially enjoy attending our Kidney Action Days. These events bring together community groups, partners, sponsors, contributors and volunteers in a dynamic event that is all about increasing awareness of kidney disease and providing free health screenings and education to help people understand their risk for kidney disease.
Our Kidney Action Day in the Washington, D.C. metro area last month was a great success, and we thank everyone who took part, including those who participated in the Kidney Action Day Walk. We also had a successful 7th Annual New York Golf Classic, a fundraiser hosted by our Northeast Regional Office. We are so grateful to our committed volunteers, golfers and contributors who made this year’s event our best ever.
This month, we are hosting three additional Kidney Action Days and Kidney Action Day Walks: San Antonio (October 6), Houston (October 14) and Atlanta (October 27). Also, on October 8, we’ll hold our 23rd Annual Turquoise Cup Golf Classic in Atlanta, and on October 17, our annual gala, The Hope Affair, in Washington, D.C., where we’ll honor our Hero of Hope, Caregiver of the Year, and the young artist whose drawing will appear on the cover of our 2013 calendar.
Though kidney disease can affect anyone, some people have a higher risk of developing problems with their kidneys. Even for those at higher risk, most cases of kidney disease could be prevented. Learn all about the factors that may put you at risk for kidney disease, and start taking steps to help protect your kidneys!
Hundreds of Washington, D.C.-area residents took action for their health at Kidney Action Day on September 8 in Landover, MD. Rep. Donna Edwards of Maryland’s Fourth District was on hand to commend the American Kidney Fund’s efforts to fight kidney disease and encourage all those in attendance to lead a healthy lifestyle. The Kidney Action Day Walk, held during the event, helped raise funds to support the programs and services of the American Kidney Fund.
The American Kidney Fund will hold its annual gala, The Hope Affair, on October 17 in Washington, D.C. The theme for this year’s event—“All Things are Possible”—is taken from the title of a young kidney transplant patient’s artwork that will appear on the cover of our 2013 calendar. The Hope Affair brings together the renal community for an evening of inspiration and hope.
AKF will hold three Kidney Action Days—and Kidney Action Day Walks—in October: San Antonio (October 6), Houston (October 14) and Atlanta (October 27). Register to walk, get a free kidney health screening, and enjoy a fun day that’s focused on you and your health. If you have family and friends in those cities, please help us spread the word!
On Monday, October 8, the Atlanta community will come together for the 23rd time to support the programs and services of the American Kidney Fund at the 23rd Annual Turquoise Cup Golf Classic. Over the years, the Turquoise Cup has become a popular and well-recognized event, raising funds to help those with, and at risk for, kidney disease.
