Announcing the 2021 Clinical Scientists in Nephrology
For three decades the American Kidney Fund (AKF) has supported clinical research by identifying emerging clinical researchers seeking to advance patient care and providing fellowships to fund their research. AKF's Clinical Scientist in Nephrology (CSN) program has funded some of the field's most prominent researchers early in their careers, helping to address the shortage of nephrology researchers.
We are pleased to announce our 2021 fellows: Elizabeth Kermgard, MD, a Pediatric Nephrology Fellow at Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Christine Limonte, MD, a Nephrology Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Washington.

On June 16, 2021, Delaware Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester and Ohio Congressman Brad Wenstrup introduced H.R. 3893, the Coordination, Accountability, Research, and Equity (CARE) for All Kidneys Act of 2021, to address the prevalence of kidney disease in minority populations and rural and underserved communities nationwide.
The American Kidney Fund worked closely with the bipartisan bill sponsors on this important bill, which would implement interventions to better understand and manage kidney disease in these groups.

A combination of coconut milk and frozen bananas create the perfect texture for this simple dessert—no ice cream machine required!
Cooking tip: After you have returned the mixture to the freezer and want to enjoy more after a day or two, let the container stand at room temperature for approximately 10 minutes. At this point an ice cream scoop can slide in the mixture and it will scoop easily.

Healthy kidneys help to keep the right amount of potassium in your body. When you have kidney disease, there is a chance that your potassium levels can get too high, which can have serious consequences.
In addition to making changes to the foods that you eat, there are medicines you can take to help you control your potassium levels called potassium binders.
Register now for this webinar to join dietitian Carolyn Feibig for a discussion about managing potassium long-term.

Many people with kidney disease experience pruritus (itching) daily, with a significant impact on their quality of life. The cause of kidney disease-related pruritus remains unclear. There are a number of treatment options available, but additional data is needed to support their use.
If you suffer from pruritus, consider sharing this course with your dialysis social worker, nurse or dietitian. This course can help them gain a better understanding of your condition and advocate for you with your health care team to help improve your quality of life. They may also be eligible to receive professional credit for taking this course.
