Some rare, or less common, diseases can cause kidney damage that leads to chronic kidney disease and kidney failure.
Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a rare disease that involves scars on some of your kidneys' filters. The scarring makes it hard for your kidneys to filter out wastes from your body and can lead to kidney failure.
The cause of FSGS is unknown and there are no medicines made to treat FSGS.

On April 21, 2020, Representative Nanette Barragan (D-CA) introducted H.R. 6561, the "Improving Social Determinants of Health Act of 2020." Social determinants of health (SDOH) are non-medical factors, such as access to nutritious food, safe housing, education and good jobs, that have a large effect on public health outcomes.
By funding public health departments to address SDOHs, H.R. 6561 would create a pathway to build healthier communities from the ground level. In order to have better health in communities disproportionately affected by kidney disease, we must invest in programs that address the SDOHs that put people at risk for chronic illness.
Please urge your U.S. Representative to co-sponsor H.R. 6561 >>

Do you know an inspirational dialysis or kidney transplant patient who deserves recognition for their contributions to their community? We'd like to hear their story. Fill out a form and tell us about your Hero of Hope.
The Hero of Hope award is one of the highest honors given to a kidney patient in the United States. Each year AKF receives nominations from across the country—from social workers, nurses, nephrologists, caregivers, family members and friends of patients whose lives are a testament to hope despite the challenges of living with kidney failure.

Baking is a quick and effective method to cook most types of fish, including cod. Drizzling the cod with olive oil and drenching the fillets in fresh lemon juice ensure the fish remains moist when exposing it to the dry oven heat. You can even cover the fish with foil for a more moist fillet.
This low-sodium recipe takes just 30 minutes to make. And if you want to reduce the amount of potassium even more, try this baked fish with a sprinkling of fresh dill and a little lime zest instead of the salsa.
