Rick Bellando (right) donated a kidney to his close friend Matt Fulgieri (left) |
Three things I wasn't expecting when I donated my kidney
The act of giving someone a second chance through living kidney donation is considered by some to be heroic. But Rick Bellando doesn't feel like a hero. He simply did the right thing to help a dear friend and learned some valuable lessons along the way.
Rick's experience is a must-read for anyone interested in donating a kidney or for those who need a kidney donor.

Safety Net helped 5,200 patients and counting
The American Kidney Fund's Safety Net Program provides grants to help dialysis patients and kidney donors with costs not covered by insurance. Typical expenses include the cost of transportation to and from dialysis; over-the-counter medicines; co-payments; and other needs, for example, dentures.
So far in 2019, AKF has provided 5,200 of these grants. We are able to continue this impactful program with the support of our donors.

Webinar: Managing side effects of late-stage kidney disease
Did you know that many of the "side effects" or symptoms people with late-stage kidney disease experience can be managed? Some of the most common issues include having dry and itchy skin, feeling tired and drained after dialysis, and having trouble sleeping. You do not need to suffer through these uncomfortable experiences without help!
Our speakers, Dr. Gopa Green and social worker Diane Ruddell, will discuss why some of these side effects appear in later stages of kidney disease and how you can manage them.
Tuesday, August 20 from 1–2 p.m. EDT.
