April is Donate Life Month. More than 100,000 Americans are on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. With Mother’s Day right around the corner, our new blog, Kidney Today, features a post sure to warm your heart. Anthony Brown’s decision to donate a kidney to his mother changed not only his mother’s life, but his as well: Through the experience, Anthony discovered a passion for advocacy and spreading the word about kidney donation.
Thank you to the more than 4,200 people who voted to select cover art for our 2015 calendar! The winner, Madison Gordon, is an 18-year-old from the state of Washington. Her drawing won the most votes in our online contest. Madison will be an honored guest at the American Kidney Fund’s 2014 gala, The Hope Affair, this fall in Washington, D.C.
The 8th Annual New York Spring Event is honoring Dr. Bruce Spinowitz as Nephrologist of the Year and Daniel Rosenstein as Humanitarian of the Year. Dr. Spinowitz is consistently rated as one of New York’s top doctors. He is affiliated with New York Hospital Queens as well as the Cornell Weill College of Medicine. Dan Rosenstein is a Managing Director and Senior Banker with J.P. Morgan’s Long Island Private Bank, generously donating his time serving on the boards of area nonprofits.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health (OWH) has been a partner with AKF since 2011. OWH helps promote AKF’s Kidney Action Days throughout the country and the organization’s Regional Women’s Health Coordinators often attend events in their cities. OWH provides information about kidney disease on its website and has links to AKF for site visitors looking for more information.
